Golden Hour on Calton Hill

Golden Hour. That beautiful time when daylight fades to golden hues and soft pinks. When the light sparkles and everything is bathed in a golden glow. When everything is infused with magic. For me, it's the best time to see a city. And there really is only one place to properly soak up Edinburgh's skyline: Calton Hill. So as Golden Hour approaches you'll often find me scampering up the hill, camera in hand, to find a comfy patch of grass and watch as the city transforms, lit up by a golden glow.

There's a new kid on the block which sits proudly at the top of Calton Hill: The Lookout (by Gardener's Cottage). The restaurant is mainly made out of glass and commands once of the most breath-taking views of Edinburgh. I've been desperate to visit and see it for myself so we took ourselves there one evening and sampled their tasting menu. Which was, essentially, six courses of deliciousness. (This isn't an ad or gifted in anyway, just a treat to ourselves!) If you're looking for an incredibly special dining experience while in Edinburgh, look no further.

If you do decide to go, do your future self a favour and plan your reservation around sunset. Not only will you get delicious food, you can sit with a tipple of your choice and take in one of the most spectacular, uninterrupted views in the city.
